Screamin' Kids LLC was founded on the passion of a mother of three who found herself with a feeling of helplessness during yet another "special news" bulletin of yet another abducted child.
I am that Mom. My name is Terri Marshall. Shortly after that news bulletin, I realized that we don't have to remain helpless, that we not only need to rise above our fears but that we have a responsibility to do so -- and to empower our children with tools for protection. These tools would need to be taught with a simple approach, including skills and a survival mindset. In order to ensure that my children retained these ideas -- I would also need to surround them with things that met them on their level that would speak to them in support of my teachings.
With an understanding of these elements, I founded Screamin' Kids LLC. At the onset of my development of the Screamin' Kids concept, I began to research the current tools available to teach my kids -- and me -- about self-protection. Although the information I found was for the most part very good, I understood that, at least for my family, it needed to be simplified. I wanted my children to really engage in these concepts, embracing the idea of empowerment that comes with knowledge and planning. And so on I went.
My first task was to make sure that if anyone that tried to take one of my children anywhere without my permission they were going to have to deal with a screaming kid! And I didn't mean a playful scream -- I mean a scream-on-purpose, scream-for-your-life scream, a scream that would be understood to anyone within earshot to be a cry for help out of desperation and urgency.
Why "Screamin' Kids"?
I first took my very outgoing and vivacious 6 year old son who has had complaints from many that "he is just too loud" and "seems to do nothing but scream" and asked him to demonstrate to me how he would scream if he were ever approached by someone wanting to lead him away from the designated area which I had preset. Well, much to my surprise, my six-year-old -- who was otherwise well versed in screaming a shrill that could alert armies of thousands -- suddenly went silent. I realized that the first thing I needed to do was teach him to "scream on purpose". That done, through this teaching I also realized his otherwise loud-mouthed friends also needed to be taught the same skill.
On and on we went, with one skill following another until we, through enlisting the help of the neighborhood kids and younger relatives, realized that many kids needed to be taught these skills, and they needed it in the easy and fun-to-follow format that we had developed. At this point, I began to organize my teaching ideas, and products that I had originally thought about creating for my kids, and moved forward with Screamin' Kids LLC.
Having said all of this, I am glad you are here. You have taken the first step in empowering your kids. I encourage you to continue to browse our website. Screamin' Kids was developed for you to assist you in finding that simple and impacting approach to teaching your kids how to recognize danger and how to react should they be in harm's way.
